Neck and back conditions can affect your comfort, mobility and everyday activities. At Advanced Orthopaedic Associates (AOA) in Wichita, Kansas, our fellowship-trained spine surgeons, Dr. Jacob Birlingmair and Dr. Alex Nazareth, provide evaluation and treatment for a wide range of spinal conditions.
Our spine team works with you to understand your symptoms, explain your diagnosis and discuss nonsurgical and surgical treatment options based on your individual needs.
Spine Conditions We Treat
Our orthopaedic spine service evaluates and treats conditions including:
- Herniated discs: Disc problems that may place pressure on nearby nerves and cause pain, numbness or weakness.
- Spinal stenosis: Narrowing around the spinal cord or nerves that may affect comfort, movement and function.
- Degenerative disc disease: Changes in spinal discs that may contribute to neck or back symptoms.
- Spinal fractures and trauma-related injuries: Injuries that may affect the alignment or stability of the spine.
- Adult spinal deformities: Changes in spinal alignment that may cause pain, posture changes or difficulty with daily activities.
Spine Treatment Options
Treatment begins with an evaluation of your symptoms, medical history and spinal condition. Your physician will explain the available options and help you understand the benefits, limitations and expected recovery associated with your treatment.
Not every spine condition requires surgery. Depending on your diagnosis, nonsurgical care may be appropriate. When surgery is recommended, the approach depends on the condition being treated and your individual needs.
Surgical options available through our spine service include:
- Spinal fusion for certain neck and back conditions
- Discectomy to relieve pressure on spinal nerves
- Laminectomy and laminoplasty for spinal decompression
- Minimally invasive spine surgery
- Computer-guided navigation and robotic-assisted spine surgery
- Endoscopic spine surgery
Your surgeon will discuss which techniques are appropriate for your condition.
