Which Injuries Can AOA Now Treat?
A fall, awkward twist, or sudden movement can cause several types of injuries:
- Fractures: Broken bones that may cause pain, bruising, swelling, or trouble bearing weight.
- Sprains: Stretched or torn ligaments, often around joints such as the ankle or knee.
- Strains: Injured muscles or tendons, sometimes caused by lifting, exercise, or overuse.
We also evaluate shoulder, hand, wrist, elbow, foot, and ankle problems, sports injuries, and certain work-related injuries.
What Happens During an Immediate Care Visit?
We'll ask how you were hurt, examine the painful area, and check your mobility. When needed, digital X-rays help identify fractures. Treatment may involve a brace, splint, cast, or activity changes, depending on the injury.
If you need more testing, continued care, or surgical evaluation, we can arrange follow-up with an AOA specialist. Many musculoskeletal injuries can be treated without surgery.
When Should You Go to an Emergency Department?
Immediate care isn't a substitute for emergency treatment. Call 911 or go to an emergency department for a bone protruding through the skin, severe bleeding, loss of consciousness, chest pain, stroke-like symptoms, or seizures. A hand or foot that becomes cold, pale, or numb after an injury also needs emergency evaluation.
For back or neck pain, contact your primary care provider, general urgent care, or an emergency department, depending on your symptoms.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. AOA Now welcomes walk-ins, so you don't need to book ahead for most new orthopaedic injuries. Workers' compensation appointments may require advance arrangements through your insurance adjuster or case manager. If you're unsure which Wichita clinic is open or best for your symptoms, call us before you visit.
Not necessarily. Imaging depends on your symptoms and examination. X-rays can reveal broken bones but don't show every ligament or tendon injury. We'll explain when additional evaluation is useful.
Costs vary depending on your insurance coverage and the services you receive. AOA Now generally bills in-network visits as specialist visits, although your out-of-pocket expenses depend on your plan's copays, deductible, and other benefits. Check with your insurer about your specific coverage, particularly if you have an out-of-network plan.
