West Point Axillary Lateral View

West Point Axillary Lateral View
Position – Patient is prone with pad beneath affected shoulder, shoulder abducted 90-degrees, elbow flexed 90-degrees and forearm off side of table. Head is turned away from the affected side. X-ray cassette is positioned superior to the shoulder.
X-Ray Beam – Directed at the axilla from inferior to superior with 25-degrees downward angulation from horizontal and 25-degrees medial angulation from midline.
Demonstrates – Anteroinferior glenoid rim fractures, bony Bankart lesions from prior glenohumeral dislocations.
