What is an Occupational Therapist?

An Occupational Therapist helps people with a variety of diagnosis across the lifespan to help them participate in the things they want and need to be able to do to at home, work, school and sports (occupations).

What is a Hand Therapist?

A Hand Therapist provides rehabilitation of the upper limb, which includes the hand, wrist, forearm, elbow and shoulder girdle. The practice combines comprehensive knowledge of the structure of the upper limb with function and activity. Hand Therapists provide therapeutic interventions to prevent dysfunction, restore function and/or reverse the progression of pathology of the upper limb in order to enhance an individual’s ability to execute tasks and to participate fully in life situations.

(Adapted from the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC), revised definition and scope of practice, March 2009).
